Any advice on getting a new 'puter?
Well, i've decided to break down and replace my aging computer and so i thought i would come to you guys for advice.
Basically im looking for a good machine, not top of the line, but something i wont have to replace for a while and easily upgradable. maybe something like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16883147039 but cheaper if possible. not really looking to spend more than a grand. also not necessarily looking to go for a HP but thats generally the specs im looking for. i know its probably cheaper to build my own, but i dont know if i have enough savvy to do that.
Z, i know we were talking the other day about this, so whenever you get the chance just throw me some ideas. no rush.

dammit ocho, you got me thinking of power trios now. i would have to give Cream and the Jimi Hendrix experience the nod though. rush is up there though. speaking of which i just watched the Cream documentary on Netflix. its pretty good, definitely recommend it. ginger baker cracked me up. just a grizzled, cantakerous old salt. but the dude could play drums.
anyway, stop hijacking the damn thread! i need a new computer over here.

It's too much fun though. You even get off-topic. It's great.

I just got the Radeon 5770 card, and it eats kids. Was a good price on Newegg too, 200 bucks after taxes and shipping. Plays MW2 on 1600x1050 Anti aliasing x16 and everything on max settings and doesn't even hiccup. Mmmmmm. Quiet as fuck too, I'm very impressed by it.

Ok, a bit off topic, but how do you know what to set the AA setting for your card?

yeah...i notied they had the 4000 series model in the rig i linked, but was hoping for something in the 5k range if its a radeon card. i dont necessarily need a blu-ray player but if i can squeeze one in on my budget, sure. but yeah, i want a good video card in there.
and thats a good question francie, ive always kinda wondered that myself.

Seriously just build it dude. It's not nearly as hard as you think and SO worth it! And once you break the seal you'll never buy a pre-built again.
If you go that route I and Im sure others can give you plenty of help but I haven't looked at a boxed system, aside for plain jane work computers, in a while so I really don't know where to point you. I'd be wary of HP though, every one I've ever encountered had lots of issues.
