Just pointing out that you sound like a broken record with the Raptors already dude. Tried the light-hearted ribbing method but that didn't seem to work, so let me try another tact...

And for the record we weren't "On the subject" of hard drives, we were discussing good freeware...

And sorry to say but you can remark that all the reviews in the world are "subjective and objective to a matter of preference." (Which doesn't even really make sense...) but if they all point to the FACT that your beloved Raptors are no longer king of the performance hill than they most likely aren't. Not too mention I would be wary to rely on data from someone who requires testers and others who comment on said tests to be certed but himself knows little of the internal workings or operations of a hard drive. "Smaller drives are faster..." are they!? And to summarily dismiss an independent review from a respected site, whilst believing everything spoonfed by the manufacturers not-at-all biased benchmarkings.

Not to butt in here, but this is pretty lame. Why is his point moot? Are you saying that benchmark tests aren't valid unless every individual does them themselves? And with the same breath, do you meet all of your criteria outlined above? And if not, why aren't all of your points moot, and why post a video of someone elses' research if you're discrediting Uber based on the premise that he didn't do the benchmarks himself?

Not to pick on you Dretch, but you can't completely discredit someone based on certifications. Using other peoples' research is practiced every day in every corner of the world...it's how we make advancements. If all our researchers "redid" everything their predecessors had already discovered, we wouldn't even be having this dialogue.

In any event, technical knowledge is easily obtained these days, it doesn't require a certification for one to know what they're talking about. I know Uber has worked in IT for years (as long as I can remember), the man knows his shit.

I know the subject was changed to freeware from Any advice on getting a new 'puter?
I do understand all points of views, however,
the whole thread imo is about computers not just freeware.
And I meant the point is moot because,
1, My post was about Micron, not the Spinpoint
2, the link Uber had sent was for the Spinpoint not the Micron.
3, I trust those that have certs and or IT knowledge.
4, I have seen biased benches and is why I invite people to do their own.

I was just trying to share my findings on the 150 vs Micron is all and in which I was picked on for.

So, whatever..
I'm over it, just glad I don't eat wheaties..

Dretch,
I shouldn't have been so harsh previously, and for that I sincerely apologize. I still stand by what I was saying, but I should never have said it in such a manner. This is a place for conversation and debate amongst friends and peers, not berating and attitude. I have to be honest, sometimes you rub me the wrong way, but we're both adults and I shouldn't act like that regardless. And again I apologize for being so abrasive.

And you are absolutely right, there are a lot of very biased benchmarks and reviews out there, and a majority of the SSDs on the market really aren't up to snuff (Pretty much anything with a JMicron controller chip in it). With that being said, I would think (But don't really know as I didn't watch them perform it) the benches I posted are a rather good source to go by, bit-tech is respected site. And by reading all of the tech forums I frequent it seems most of the high-level guys are preferring other options as opposed to the Raptors based on performance, capacity, and value. But I understand you have had great experience with them, and with hardware so finicky I can see why you would stand behind the raptors. But I definitely think you should give those Spinpoints a good look. Really good hard drives as far as reliability and build quality, storage capacity, and price. But in the end it's the end-user's machine, so they should go with what they want.

Uber,
My apologies as well..
Each others interpretation perhaps?

I consider myself to be a better writer than a speaker (east coast upbringing)
I kept trying to figure out what it was that I wrote to misconstrue.
My fault really, should have been more explicit on Micron vs VR.

I guess I better stick to song writing rather than doing reviews LOL.

It's all good though, chit happens now and then and no animosity whatsoever
(just to be clear on that)

I did take a really good look at that site though, went through the benches, wrote down scores on the top drives.
Then went to a site that used World Bench (like me) which runs on PC's with XP (all versions as far as I know). (I dual Boot XP Pro / Win7 Ultm.)

Did I notice that OCZ and Corsair were tops?
According to the High / Less = Better, those 2 sure looked like they took the lead or am I reading bit-tech's benches wrong?

And to add salt to my own wound.. I thought of the F1 rather than paying better
attention that it was the Spinpoint F3.. doh!

I agree with you on : good hard drives as far as reliability and build quality, storage capacity, and price, as the wrong MB could bottleneck, not enough or the correct memory etc..
So you are correct, the build makes a difference.

That's the reason why I try to make a fair bench: like, partition both to same size, could be I am wrong doing that? My thoughts were that it sounds fair in my mind

Anyway, keeping Bit-Tech in favs (thanks), I saw more than just HD's

I so gonna bring this beast of a drive back to blow all your benchmarks to shame ... nothing beats this drive for gaming ... quad booted with Ubuntu, W7, XP and HAckintosh ... never mind that its only big enough to just handle the boot sector if I were going to do it
